Freud's Last Session

Biography Drama History

A fictional meeting between Sigmund Freud and C. S. Lewis to discuss their differing views about the existence of God.

Both of the central characters were erudite scholars and central to "Freud’s Last Session" is their philosophical jousting as they debate beliefs and ideas. The concept is interesting, but despite the inspired casting the verbal parrying is dense and sometimes slips past the viewer. A little more context for those unfamiliar with the esteemed man's life would have helped hold the story together better. It feels voyeuristic to be privy to the rooms of the founder of psychoanalysis, however, the overriding feeling is gratitude to the filmmaker for meticulously recreating this part of the protagonist's world.
