Live by Night

A group of Boston gangsters corner the illegal rum racket in Florida during the Prohibition era.

With all of its vintage imagery, "Live by Night" might be pretty to look at, but ultimately found wanting beneath the flashy apparel and exquisite sets. Moments of clarity are muddied by a convoluted storyline, weighed down further by underdeveloped characters and an overlong running time. Thankfully there's some respite during epic car chases and Tommy Gun fights, which go a short way to offset a sequence of seemingly never-ending final stanzas. Snore by night.
