Drawn from the story and book of Sylvain Tesson, a man sets out to walk across France from Mercantour to the Cotentin to restore his body and spirit after a fall that almost killed him.
"On the Wandering Paths" is a story of challenge and penance. The plot is perhaps restrained by its source material as it steps along without exploring the inner life of the walker, although his ambition is evident. The tone is relentlessly masculine, and the protagonist's drive borders on masochistic, a man who says he is determined not to appear like an 'old woman'. The scenery provides a viewing reward, even though the camera work is a little uninspired. The path is made by walking.
