Pokémon Detective Pikachu

A 21-year-old teams up with a talking Pokémon named Pikachu to try and find his missing father.

Packed with adequate levels of nostalgia, special effects, and humour, "Detective Pikachu" is pleasantly entertaining, if not slightly uninspiring. Arguably the film's greatest assets - the cuteness and charm of its Pokémon characters and rich premise - aren't used to their full potential. They're too often overshadowed by an over-complicated mystery that keeps the story moving at a clunky and confusing pace. Still, it's super effective family-fare, with the potential for a franchise that will make you want to catch em' all.
