Scrapper

After her mother dies, 12-year-old Georgie tries to conceal that she's living alone in their council house until the father she's never known turns up.

Scrapper is named for its protagonist, a girl wearing a polyester soccer shirt and ready to take on everybody and everything. With a run time of 84 minutes, this scrap of a movie scoots along without pausing to deepen or explain the story. The other scrappy element is the father, an immature drifter, who turns up without much backstory or any formed plans for the future. The effort is lifted by each character revealing their nature, each with a heart of gold, as they connect deeply with one another. Tender sweet scraps.
