Suburbicon

The tranquility of a quiet suburb is pierced by a violent home invasion and underbelly of the seemingly respectable community is revealed.

Patience is needed as the foundations are set, but the wait is worthwhile as the plot starts to twist with cunning and deception. The sets have more depth than the characters as the film-maker exercises a shrewd eye for shape and nostalgic form. A secondary storyline about the repulsive face of racism is loosely threaded into the main tale, and both simmer and boil over in unison after a startling, comical ride. Doubly satisfying urban double-cross.
