The Nun

A priest who specialises in demonic possession is sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a nun at a Romanian church.

"The Nun" is sensibly spooky but takes far too long to get going. There's no shortage of crucifixes in this haunted abbey, providing the ideal setting for evil spirits to play hide and seek with the new visitors. Jump scares are earmarked a mile off, so the film relies heavily on mood and candlelight trickery to incite fear. Unfortunately, the story is far too dull to hold any level of suspense, with the momentous and disturbing climax arriving at a point beyond interest. Bring your holy water.
